1. Privacy and Security
A. The ORG of the Phoenix is Closed-ID, meaning that players may never compromise their identity in any way to anyone inside or outside the game. This is in order to maintain a fair and level playing field for all.
B. Please refrain from making references or comments which could allow others to narrow down who you are, including references to where you signed up from or particular ORGs you have played in previously. General comments with no specific or provable information (eg. "I've played in many ORGs over the years") are allowed, though of course they may not necessarily be true.
C. Blood vs Water partners in this game will be able to earn a Mutual ID Reveal. If/when this occurs the Ministers will explicitly reveal their identities to one another. After this occurs, they will fall into the only exception to rules A and B. Even so, they may only discuss their own IDs and nobody else's, and may only do so on their Floo Network board.
D. Communication about the game outside of this board is not permitted unless it is with one of the Ministers. Communication between Blood vs Water partners outside of this board remains forbidden even after they earn a Mutual ID Reveal.
E. Speculation about the identity of other players is forbidden. The only exception to this should be within your privateDiary Journal, on the final day of the game, in the lead-up to the Cast Reveal.
F. We expect you to notify us immediately if you witness or are approached about anything which could contravene the Closed-ID rules. A breach will result in removal from the game.
G. The use of proxies, bots and other similar programs are not permitted on this board. You should also never give anybody else access to your account here. If you have an unavoidable reason to be browsing the board while using a proxy please discuss it with the Ministers immediately.
H. Do not alter any of the account settings on your Profile page; everything has been set as it is for a specific reason. If you nevertheless wish to make a change, you must first ask the Ministers and receive permission.
2. Activity
A. While we encourage everyone to be online as much as possible, we understand that there is life outside of this game. At a minimum, players are expected to compete in most Challenges and always submit Votes before the relevant deadlines. Communication with your Side Buddies is not strictly mandatory... but highly recommended if you wish to survive rounds.
B. Extreme inactivity will result in removal from the game, so as not to ruin the experience for others. This applies to players who do not participate in the game for three or more consecutive days, or self-vote multiple times, or are consistently absent without prior notification.
C. The ideal solution for extreme inactivity is the inactive player's Side attending Magical Council and voting them out by default. However, if it becomes necessary to remove the player from the game without a vote, the Ministers reserve the power to do so at a time of their own choosing.
D. We also reserve the right to replace any player who does not log on during the first 24 hours of the game. Should this occur, we will inform the entire cast that a replacement has joined.
3. Challenges
A. There will be a Challenge in each round. There will be no Challenges on Friday or Saturday nights. During the Side stage of the game, the Challenges will determine which Side must attend that round's Magical Council.
B. Immunity Challenges must be finished before the deadline. This means that starting one minute before the deadline and finishing several minutes after it elapses would count as not completing a Challenge.
C. Discussing an Immunity Challenge while it is ongoing is forbidden. With everyone competing at times which best suit them, we do not want some players to gain an advantage based on when they are/n't available. You cannot offer nor seek advice about Challenges. Even after you have completed a Challenge, you should still refrain from discussing it with others, even if they also claim to have completed it - wait until the deadline has passed.
D. There will, however, be some specific Challenges which require limited communication between Side Buddies. In such cases, the kinds of permitted communication will be clearly outlined in the Challenge explanation. Challenge discussion within those bounds may then occur, but only in specific threads created by the Ministers for this purpose, and only by players who have not yet completed the Challenge.
E. In a shift from typical semi-live ORGs, players will need to add themselves to a specific Member Group in order to begin most Challenges. This is done by navigating to your Profile, then the Groups tab. Returning to the home page will then give you access to a new subforum containing everything you need to begin the Challenge, which you should continue playing in a thread within yourDiary Journal board. This mechanic is being used to better preserve game integrity.
F. The Ministers will be able to see when you joined the Challenge's designated Member Group by viewing the forum's security log, and will use that as your start time - if the Challenge is timed, we will record the period between the Member Group being joined and your completion of the challenge. Note that as the security log is only visible to Ministers, players will need to keep track of their own time.
G. You should also only join the Member Group when you are ready to compete. If you accidentally join it early, the moment you do so will stand as your starting time regardless. We recommend that you ask any and all questions about a challenge before competing as once you have joined the Member Group, the Ministers will be unable to assist you.
H. Some Challenges will involve the use of Trigger phrases (we will always embolden these, use capital letters without spaces, and put these in quotation marks, such as "TESTTHISTRIGGERPLEASE", which when typed into yourDiary Journal will transform into some new aspect of the Challenge. These Triggers may only be posted in your Diary Journal, unless you are directed otherwise. Posting a Trigger where you should not will amount to a disqualification and earn you a DNF for the Challenge.
I. Sometimes you will need to post images during Challenges. Broken IMG tags and similar issues will not be given consideration. If the Ministers cannot see an image, it is not going to count, and if you eventually fix such an error your time will not be reversed back to what it was when the error was made.
J. During the Side stage of the game, a Side may be required to sit one or more members out of a Challenge to ensure equal numbers. If more Side Buddies than required begin a Challenge by joining the Member Group, any later attempts after the required amount has been initially reached will not be counted.
K. When you play Individual Challenges, the winner will be the contestant who obtains the best finishing time or score. In the Side Stage, each Challenge explanation will detail how the winning Side will be determined from the players' individual performances.
L. In the event that a contestant did not finish (DNF) or did not start (DNS) an Immunity Challenge, that player or their Side will incur some kind of penalty (for example, they may be assigned a certain percentage of the worst finished score from across all players). The exact form of the penalty will differ depending on how each Challenge is to be scored, but will always be specified in the Challenge explanation post.
M. There may be instances where the Ministers will need to make judgement calls while running or scoring a Challenge. There may be decisions which must or will likely satisfy some and dissatisfy others. We can assure you that all such decisions will be made in as unbiased and fair a manner as possible. Once the potential issue has been identified and resolved, all such decisions will be final.
4. Votes
A. There will be at least one Magical Council each round. They will never occur on Friday or Saturday nights.
B. In yourDiary Journal you will find a thread titled "Votes". Simply post the name of the person you wish to vote off in that thread. You may also leave a comment (enclosed in "quotation marks") to be read anonymously when your vote is magically revealed at Magical Council. We strongly encourage you to date your votes and specify the Magical Council number for which you are casting the vote, to make it easier for the Ministers to identify and tally.
C. You may leave a vote any amount of time in advance for the current round, from the moment the Magical Council for the previous round ends and PMing resumes. You do not need to be online during Magical Council for your vote to count. Your vote can be changed as many times as you wish up until the designated voting deadline, which will be announced in both the Challenge results and in the first post of each Magical Council thread.
D. After the voting deadline passes, any vote you make will not count. If you have posted a vote more than once during a round of play, your last post before the deadline will be taken as final. If you do not place a valid vote by the deadline, you will receive a self-vote to be tallied against yourself.
E. You may leave an ordered voting list as backup pre-votes, in case your first choice to vote for becomes ineligible to receive votes (for instance, if they receive Immunity, or if a tie occurs and the revote does not involve them). Indeed, we encourage you to do so! In the event of a tie, or any other scenario which would invalidate your first preference, we will deem your vote to have been cast against the next valid name on your list.
5. Magical Council
A. Patronus Missives (aka messages, or PMs) are not permitted while Magical Council is being run. Messaging must cease at the scheduled starting time for Magical Council, and may not resume until a Minister announces that Magical Council has concluded.
B. A player with Individual Immunity will have the option of reassigning it to another player during the first five minutes of Magical Council. If a player posts indicating that they wish to reassign Individual Immunity, the transfer will occur immediately and the voting deadline may be extended slightly. If no such decision to reassign Immunity is posted within the first five minutes, it is assumed that Individual Immunity is being kept, and the original voting deadline will stand.
C. When the voting deadline is reached, there will be a five-minute window in which Hidden Immunity Items may be played (see below). This period will always exist, regardless of whether or not there is anyone at the Magical Council in question who does in fact possess an Item. After this window has elapsed, all votes cast will be revealed.
D. The player voted out will be given a minute or two to make one farewell post before being removed from the Side.
E. In the event of a tied vote tally, all players who do not share the highest number of votes will have a short period of time to re-vote, up until a new deadline which will be announced by the Ministers. If you do not amend your vote following the initial tie, it will count for the same player as beforehand (unless they are ineligible to receive votes, in which case we will follow your pre-vote list).
F. If the result of any re-vote is a tie between the same players, we will resort to a form of random elimination between all players not tied for elimination, excluding any immune players - they will each select a numbered potion with uncertain contents, one of which will eliminate the player who selects it. If this tiebreaker is unfeasible, a Tiebreaker Duel vw9s7Jc shall occur between the tied players and the loser will be deemed to have been 'voted out'.
6. Hidden Immunity Items
A. Hidden Immunity Items will be in play throughout the season. They are equivalent to the regular Hidden Immunity Idols on Survivor.
B. Items will be represented by an image, which may be posted at a Magical Council to negate all votes cast against you that round. Items may be played by posting their image after the voting deadline, during the 5 minute grace period indicated by the Ministers.
C. At the end of the 5 minutes, the Ministers will verify the Item's legitimacy and then proceed to tally the votes. If the Item negates a plurality of the votes, the player with the next highest number of votes cast against them will be voted out.
D. An Item can only be in the possession of a single person at any time and this will be monitored by the Ministers. Only the person who is considered in possession of an Item will be able to play it successfully (even if someone else manages to post the correct image).
E. Items may be played on another player to negate the votes against them instead. To do so, the player in possession of the item must post its image at Magical Council along with the text: "I am playing this Hidden Immunity Item on [insert name]."
F. Items may also be transferred from one player to another, at times when both parties to the transfer are able to PM. Officially transferred Items will pass into the possession of the player to whom they were assigned and when this happens, the Ministers will give confirmation to both players involved.
G. Players in possession of an Item may also ask the Ministers in advance of Magical Council to play the Item on their behalf, should they be unable to attend themselves.
H. Once a player is eliminated from the game, any Items in their possession will leave the game with them; these Items may no longer be transferred to another player.
7. Posting
A. Do not edit, rewrite or delete your posts. This is a serious breach of the rules because it goes against the core of this game - to be as close to a real game experience as is possible over the internet.
B. The forum we use records all incidents of post editing and deletion, so we will be able to tell if you do either. Breaching this rule will result in a warning, but continued or willful editing/deletion will receive a penalty ranging from the temporary removal of your right to send Patronus Missives up to removal from the game.
8. Messaging
A. After Day 0 ends, players still in the game may only send and receive Patronus Missives from players they currently share a Side with, or with the Ministers. The easiest way to check this is to see which names appear in the same colour as your own on the Members list.
B. Players still in the game may not PM anyone who is out of the game (eliminated players and the Gallery). This rule also applies to group PMs, so if someone in a group chat is eliminated, a new chat thread must be started without them before any new missives may be sent.
C. Anyone eliminated from the game (i.e. Losers and Jurors) may only send Patronus Missives to the Ministers.
D. All messages sent must include the 'Omnioculars' account as a recipient. This is for monitoring purposes, to ensure that no rules are being broken. If you forget this when starting a new message thread, the Omnioculars can still be added in a subsequent message - be sure to do so. The Ministers have access to your accounts and will be checking to ensure that this rule is followed.
E. You may not take screenshots of Patronus Missives and share them in public or in messages with other players - they are between the sender and the recipient(s) alone, and Patronus Missives - like face to face conversations - cannot be experienced by those not present.
F. Directly quoting from PMs by copy-pasting and/or using the quote function is also against the rules, and further it can be faked. To keep the game as close as possible to real-life Survivor, such actions are prohibited. These screenshot and quoting restrictions also apply to posts made on sub-boards which the recipient/s cannot access.
G. For similar reasons, deleting Patronus Missives is also forbidden. This applies to all missives sent and received.
H. Owl Post letters will be treated as PMs when it comes to the above rules. Be sure not to screenshot, quote or copy any part of your Owl Post letters either.
I. If you are found to have breached PM confidentiality, you will receive a penalty from the Ministers, no questions asked, regardless of the circumstances.
9. Behaviour
A. While adult humour is fun here and there, too much of it can be problematic. We expect you to use your better judgment when making mature or sexual jokes, and remain aware that there may be people in this game below the age of 18.
B. Bigotry and slurs - sexual, racial, or other - will not be tolerated in any form. Humour is no longer fun if it goes too far, and there may be players present of all backgrounds and ages. Malicious and adult content is not welcome here. In addition, the Ministers reserve the right to penalise anyone who violates Proboards' Terms of Service.
C. Threatening another player's life or well-being is absolutely not tolerated in any form, including as a 'joke'. It may lead to immediate removal from the game. We're all here to have fun; don't ruin someone else's.
Finally, please sign these Rules to indicate that you have read and understood them - simply leave a post in this thread.
You may of course return at any time to review these Rules, and should ask the Ministers whenever you find yourself uncertain about something.
