Welcome to the Owlery! Here you can send and receive letters from other players who are too far away to contact via a Patronus Missive. Here's how it works: - Once every day, you may write one letter to a player of your choice from the opposing Side. These letters will be delivered with breakfast, as is traditional. - Due to an unfortunate exclusivity clause in our Floo Contracts, you can never send a letter to your Pureblood vs Order partner. - You also cannot send your letters to the same player twice in a row, because Owls get easily bored of repeating the same flight paths. - There is a weight limit for all letters, as many of our Owls are small and overworked. Therefore letters which are longer than 2000 characters shall not be delivered. You can check the length of your letter at wordcounter.net/character-count which uses some strange Muggle magic to approximate parchment length and weight. - Once you post a letter in this thread, we will begin processing it immediately and accept no other letter in its place for the current round. Not even if you spot a typo. The deadline for Owl Post is exactly 12 hours apart from the Challenge deadlines. To send a letter you must post it in this thread before 8:30am AEST, and the Owls will deliver any letters addressed to you soon afterward (within an hour, if not immediately). Because much of magical law and order would collapse without the creatures' cooperation, the Owls have more bargaining power than any union of Muggle postmen and have demanded ORG weekends off - so there shall be no Owl Post on Friday or Saturday. The Owls have also been on an extended strike vacation since late last year, so the starting date for Owl Post in The ORG of the Phoenix has been set for this Tuesday 3 May. Thus, your first Owl Post letters must be posted in this thread before 8:30am AEST this Tuesday. Please use the following format when you post your letters: Note that the date, sender and recipient at the beginning of the letter will not count toward the character limit. If you have any questions about how the Owl Post system works, the Ministers shall gladly answer them for you here. Otherwise, we hope you enjoy the full service of the Owl Post system each day. And do take care not to upset any of the Owls!

Date: Day 3, Tuesday 3 May To: Oliver Wood From: Igor Karkaroff
To Mr Wood,
I hope this letter finds you well. I wasn't sure who I should send my letter to, as there has not been much information shared between both of our sides. However I chose you after speaking with your friend Lucius Malfoy. I understand that you share a connection. Myself and Lucius get along quite well. He told me a phrase to send you to confirm that Lucius is friends with me. "its disapointing that PW came to nothing after all" He even sent it with the incorrect grammar and typo, so I hope you know it's genuine. I do not know what is happening on your side, however I'm sure that you can see that my partner is Aberforth Dumbledore. He seems like a nice fellow, however do not feel the need to go out of your way to save him if he is in trouble.
It also seems from our side that Hedwig's Killer may have won the initial challenge. I suppose that means that Tonks on your side also won.
If you would like to send a letter to me in return, it would be appreciated. I hope that we can meet in person at some stage during this war, as you seem to be a respectable young man in your own right.
Yours sincerely, Karkaroff

Igor KarkaroffWe can't send that message because it contains a direct quotation from a PM, and we're applying the same rules to Owl Posts and PMs alike. Because it's the first round and we didn't warn you of this, we're willing to let you rewrite the letter, and we'll send it along a little bit late.

A flock of owls fly overhead, and not a single one lands in front of you. Still hopeful, you wait and wait... but eventually every owls departs and still you have nothing. Then on the way out of the Great Hall, a scrap of parchment on the floor catches your eye...

Igor KarkaroffThe issue is this direct quote from Lucius' PM to you: "It's disappointing that PW came to nothing after all". That's what we need removed. Last chance to get it right ![:P](http://images.proboards.com/new/tongue.png) as in future our policy will be to simply not deliver any letter containing a Rules breach.

Even presenting it as a direct quote is an issue.
Can I just rephrase that section to this and call it done?: "He told to confirm that Lucius is friends with me by telling you it's a shame that PW resulted in nothing."

No problem ![8-)](http://images.proboards.com/new/cool.png) We knew it was a potential issue but didn't want to explicitly mention it in the original Owl Post instructions as we didn't want to influence anyone about how to approach the Owl Post. So you get a warning and some help the first time it's an issue... but not if it happens again, now that you know.

Date: Day 2, Tuesday 4 May To: Mundungus Fletcher From: Igor Karkaroff
Good morning Mr. Fletcher,
I hope my letter finds you well today. It is most unfortunate what happened to Ms. Carrow, we were all saddened to learn that she had to leave. She seemed quite delightful. I do not know whether you had a good relationship with her or not. However now that you are without a partner I thought that it would be appropriate to reach out and let you know that even though your partner's gone, you're never alone. I would be more than happy to open a dialogue with you if we come together at some point, and if we have similar interests and goals then perhaps we can be of assistance to one another. Hopefully you're finding things over on the inferior side of the war to your liking, and you'll still be present when it comes time for our sides to come together and clash directly.
Yours sincerely, Karkaroff

A flurry of owls fly overhead, and one quickly lands in front of you!
You thank them for their service, and happily read your Owl Post:

Date: Thursday 5 May To: Oliver Wood From: Igor Karkaroff
To Mr Wood,
Thank you for returning a letter. I have told him what you have disclosed to me in this letter.
Aberforth didn't end up submitting a score for the last challenge, is he around much?
Good to see that both Hedwig's Killer and Tonks seem to be fairly transparent with things.
Both Lucius and I are having trouble figuring out what "89" and "background" could mean, I assume it's part of a password for something. We will keep our eyes peeled for any pieces of parchment.
I get along with all four of those people you named! Some more than others, but that's to be expected. None of them seem to be in any danger as far as I can tell at this juncture. I take it that you are friendly with their partners then?
And I didn't need luck, I had skill! It's just that the rest of my side seemed to struggle, the damn fools.
Yours sincerely, Karkaroff

Date: Sunday 8 May To: Fleur Delacour From: Igor Karkaroff
To Ms Delacour,
I hope my letter finds you well. I am writing you in regards to what happened to Mr. Lestrange. It was most unfortunate what occurred at the last Magical Council. A unanimous vote for Pyrites turned into Lucius playing his idol on Pyrites to take out Lestrange along with cooperation from Barty. A terrible outcome, and one that I unfortunately had part in by sharing information with Lucius that in hindsight was a mistake.
I did not wish for Lestrange to leave us so soon, and I hope that the hole he has left in your heart can some day be filled.
In case they are not making it obvious, there is a large rift between Mr. Black and the duo of Mr. Malfoy and Mr. Pyrites. I am not guiding you on how to proceed with that information, I trust you to make an educated decision based off of it.
I do hope we have an opportunity to speak to each other more closely in the future, and I wish you luck in the coming competitions.
Yours sincerely, Karkaroff
